Tips for Keeping You and Your Honda Safe on the Road This Fall

Fall driving means having to deal with slick roads and lower visibility due to foggy mornings and earlier sunsets.

With the fall season comes cooler temperatures, beautiful rustic colors, some of the most celebrated holidays of the season, and some risky driving conditions. Fall driving means having to deal with slick roads and lower visibility due to foggy mornings and earlier sunsets. It’s important for the safety of everyone on the road to keep your Honda in top condition. Here are some tips for keeping your car safe on the road this fall.

Falling Leaves

One of people’s favorite parts of fall, especially for children, are the changing colors and falling leaves. The leaves may make for a lot of fun on your lawn, but can cause dangerous conditions on the road. Leaves on the roadway are slick and will cause your tires to lose traction on the ground. You may experience skidding or even lost control of your vehicle. When you approach roads covered with leaves, be sure to slow down and be cautious of the vehicles around you. Leave enough space between yourself and vehicles that you’re following to ensure that you have enough distance to safely stop. When your Honda is parked, be careful not to park on top of piles of collected leaves to avoid fire hazards from your exhaust system.

Early Darkness

With the fall season comes the time adjustment that leads to earlier sunsets, making it darker and more dangerous for drivers. Be sure to be more vigilant, especially of children playing after school.

Variable Weather

The fall season is known for variable weather and reduced visibility on the road. This comes from rain, fog, and the cooler temperatures. As this weather is known to change throughout the day, be sure to be vigilant and remember to turn on your low beams for fog, and your windshield wipers and headlights for rain. Later into the season, as the temperatures drop further, be careful of freezing conditions and black ice by driving slower and more defensively. Be sure that these features on your Honda are working properly.

Car Maintenance

To be sufficiently safe in the fall, be sure to stay on top of your Honda’s maintenance. This includes making sure that all your lights are functioning properly and that your tires are aligned to help you maintain smooth and straightforward driving.
