Spring Car Care Tips

Oil Change

When was the last time you got the oil changed in your vehicle? If it’s been awhile, now is the time to bring it in for some new oil. Oil lubricates the many moving parts in your engine, which helps them run smoother and last longer. Oil also prevents contaminants from accumulating in the engine, and helps draw heat away from the combustion chamber. It can only do this for so long before it breaks down. Get an oil change and your engine will thank you!

Test the A/C

We talked about how to test the air conditioning in your car last week. If you find it’s not working correctly, bring it in now to get the a/c fixed before the real heat gets here!

Check Your Tire Pressure

This is a very simple thing that many drivers fail to do. Keeping your tires at the right pressure will make them last longer and will give you a smoother ride, better handling, and better gas mileage. If you haven’t checked the tire pressure in awhile, it’s likely the pressure is too low, because pressure decreases in winter due to low temperatures. The best thing to do is check the pressure after the vehicle has been parked for a few hours. This allows the tires to cool off and will give you a true reading of the actual pressure.

Wash Your Car

All the salt used on the roads in the winter builds up on your car. Salt is very corrosive, and can do a lot of damage, especially to the undercarriage of the vehicle. Take your car to the car wash and wash away that winter salt to prevent corrosion and rust.

Clean the Interior

Now that we’ve got some warmer weather, take a little time to clean out the interior of your car. It’s easy to let those receipts and change pile up in random spots in the car, but you’ll be glad you did it. After you get the big stuff, vacuum out any remaining debris to get your car’s interior looking great!
